Private Pilot

If you're looking for a career in aviation, or just want to fly for fun, getting your private pilot certificate is your first step.

Eligibility Requirements:

Must be 17 years old.
Be able to read, write, understand and speak English.
Pass a medical exam and hold an FAA medical certificate prior to your first solo.
Show evidence of U.S. citizenship or receive approval from TSA to begin training.

Flight Training Requirements:

40 hours of flight time that includes-

20 hours with an instructor that includes:

3 hours cross-country
3 hours of night

10 hours of solo flight training that includes:

3 hours cross-country time.
One solo cross country flight.
Show evidence of U.S. citizenship or receive approval from TSA to begin training.

Instrument

Adding an Instrument Rating is an invaluable addition to your Private Pilot Certificate regardless as to whether you intend to progress through to becoming a Professional Pilot. You will be taught how to fly in fog, clouds and with limited visibility. You will also develop the knowledge, skills, and judgment required to safely and confidently evaluate adverse weather conditions.

Eligibility Requirements:

Hold at least a current Private Pilot Certificate with a Helicopter rating.
Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
Show evidence of U.S. citizenship or receive approval from TSA to begin training.

Flight Training Requirements:

50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command, of which 10 hours must have been in a helicopter
40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, of which 15 hours must have been with an authorized instructor, and the instrument time includes:
Three hours of instrument flight training from an authorized instructor in a helicopter that is appropriate to the instrument-helicopter rating within 2 calendar months before the date of the practical test; and
One cross country flight in a helicopter that is performed under instrument flight rules and a flight plan has been filed with an air traffic control facility, and involves a flight of 100 nautical miles

Commercial

Want to fly for a living? Receiving your commercial pilot certificate allows you to be paid to fly, and start your career in the helicopter industry.

Eligibility Requirements:

Hold at least a current Private Pilot Certificate with a Helicopter rating.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
Show evidence of U.S. citizenship or receive approval from TSA to begin training.

Flight Training Requirements:

100 hours in powered aircraft, of which 50 hours must be in helicopters
100 hours in powered aircraft, of which 50 hours must be in helicopters
100 hours of pilot-in-command flight time, which includes at least:
35 hours in helicopters; and10 hours in cross-country flight in helicopters.
20 hours of training on the areas of operation listed in § 61.127(b)(3) of this part that includes at least
Five hours on the control and maneuvering of a helicopter solely by reference to instruments
One 2-hour cross country flight in a helicopter in daytime conditions that consists of a total straight-line distance of more than 50 nautical miles.
One 2-hour cross country flight in a helicopter in nighttime conditions that consists of a total straight-line distance of more than 50 nautical miles.
Three hours in a helicopter with an authorized instructor in preparation for the practical test within the preceding 2 calendar months from the month of the test.
10 hours of solo flight time in a helicopter or 10 hours of flight time performing the duties of pilot in command in a helicopter with an authorized instructor on board that includes:
One cross-country flight with landings at a minimum of three points, with one segment consisting of a straight-line distance of at least 50 nautical miles from the original point of departure.
5 hours in night VFR conditions with 10 takeoffs and 10 landings .

CFI

Becoming a flight instructor will allow you to gain valuable flight experience, while being paid!

Eligibility Requirements:

Hold at least a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or ATP Certificate with a Helicopter rating.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
Show evidence of U.S. citizenship or receive approval from TSA to begin training.
